Imagine you are out and about.

And your child asks you in a loud stage whisper: Why is that girl acting like that? What's wrong with her? Is she not "normal"?

My daughter did this when she was little. You can imagine how mortified I was!

Being a part of this AFineParent community, I can bet that one of your goals is to raise an open-minded child. And you try to model inclusive behavior.

In spite of it, when your kids ask such questions, it can make you wonder... what else can I do? If leading by example isn't enough, how else can I raise more open-minded kids without just shushing them, or dictating "proper" behavior?
