Do your kids sometimes exhibit completely unexpected and irrational behavior?
Heck, do you sometimes do the same?
I love reading about psychology studies that give us a glimpse into our minds and explain some of our crazy, cooky behavior! I find that applying the insights from these studies to our day-to-day parenting choices can make us much better parents!
So today, I want to share with you incredible insights from some of the studies that I find fascinating. From the Marshmallow Experiment (and the follow up studies), to the Pygmalion Effect and the Golem Effect, to the Curse of Knowledge, and the What the Hell Effect, I hope you find as much value in these as I do.
Our featured masterclass this week is the Self-Driven Child Masterclass with Dr. William Stixrud based on his book The Self-Driven Child: The Science and Sense of Giving Your Kids More Control Over Their Lives.
Dr. Stixrud is an author, speaker, clinical neuropsychologist and assistant professor of psychiatry and pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine.
In this masterclass Dr. Stixrud shares with us why it is important to allow children control over their lives and proposes a "parent as consultant" model for parenting. We then explore this model in detail in the context of homework and other examples.
If you have a child who refuses to do their homework (or sports, or music lessons), or if you are looking for raising a more self-driven child in general, this masterclass is exactly what you need!
