Subject:
[For Parents of 8-12 Year Olds] "Introduction to Debate" Online Summer Camp
Hey,
A slightly different kind of email today (the proud mama kind 😊)
Short Version:
If you have a 8-12 year old child who might be interested in learning about debate, please have them join my daughter here for her popular "Introduction to Debate" summer camp!
Detailed Version:
So, back in 2020 when in-person schooling had just shut down due to covid and we were all at a total loss for what to do, a friend of mine texted me.
Her older son, a high school kid, was planning to start zoom classes introducing debate to his younger brother and a few friends. My friend wanted to know if my daughter and her friends would like to join.
I jumped at the opportunity.
It was one of the best decisions I made!
Over the next few months, my daughter and her friend, along with the other kids in the class, researched and argued about the pros and cons of "Universal Basic Income".
It was incredible to watch!
Instead of wasting all their time mindlessly on screens (or complaining about how bored they were 🙄), these kids were:
building social skills
honing public speaking skills
learning a disciplined approach to researching a topic (that they knew nothing about!)
learning how to organize what they learnt, for easy access later
learning to make sense out of a complex idea and how to present it well
and most important of all, improving in their confidence levels by leaps and bounds!
And that confidence has carried through!
Once in-person schooling started, my daughter and her friend started a debate club in their middle school. And the next year, they were among the few high school freshmen representing their school debate team and confidently going head-to-head against seasoned senior varsity debaters. And it's continuing to this day!
My daughter is so passionate about debate that she now offers an Introduction to Debate Camp for 8-12 year olds each summer. Some kids love it so much that they continue taking classes with her throughout the year, and several of them have stayed for more than two years!
Here’s what Roochita, one of the moms whose kiddo joined the camp had to say:
“Thank you SO much for hosting this wonderful camp for our boys! They had such a great time and despite all the “cool” camps they’ve done this summer (space camp, baseball, adventure camp, etc), they’ve already declared debate is their favorite! You did an amazing job keeping them engaged, and have laid a great foundation for them to be interested in pursuing debate!” - Roochita M.
It’s almost summer again, and time for another camp. And an opportunity for you to get your kiddo started on what could become their favorite after-school activity all the way through high school (maybe even college!)
Here are some additional details:

I hope this camp will be a huge confidence booster for your child like it was for my daughter, and for the kids she now teaches!!
“I was so thrilled to sign up my daughter for this debate camp. She was enthusiastic every day to attend and worked independently. She learned so many skills such as: punctuality, listening, eye contact, research, writing, developing/conveying points of view supported with evidence, public speaking, and more. And all done virtually! Thank you!” - Diane O.
“It was a lot of fun watching my daughter participate in the Debate Camp. The idea was creative and implementing it into a successful program was spot on. You were patient with each kid and kept the class flowing. It was also different everyday which kept it interesting.Overall, it was great and it helped build my daughter’s confidence. Thank you! - Jordan H.
If you have any questions, please contact my daughter directly at nehareddymail@gmail.com and she will get back to you as soon as possible.
Best, Sumitha
